K Karen Sullivan

Karen Sullivan grew up in Fall River, Massachusetts, with firsthand exposure to gluten-free living through her celiac grandmother. Watching her grandmother manage dietary restrictions taught Karen early lessons about food and health, though she did not fully understand the connection until her own body forced the issue years later.

Karen built a career as a professional broadcaster, working in Provincetown and Boston, Massachusetts. She also worked as a model and SAG actress, maintaining an active lifestyle that included nature activities, swimming, dancing, photography, sailing, dog shows, cooking, writing, acting, and event planning. She is a graduate of Graham Jr. College in Boston.

Her health took a difficult turn when arthritis made movement painful and digestive issues became a constant problem. Later, Lyme disease complicated her situation further. Despite trying various treatments, nothing provided lasting relief. Eventually, she made the connection her grandmother’s experience had suggested: gluten was the problem. When she eliminated it completely, her health improved in ways medication alone had not achieved. The arthritis pain decreased. Digestive troubles resolved. She regained the energy and mobility she had lost.

That recovery led to ‘The Gluten-Free Goddess’ Cookbook.’ Karen recognized that others were struggling with the same challenges she had faced, trying to figure out how to cook well within dietary restrictions. She gathered over 250 recipes designed for everyday use, tested them thoroughly, and organized them to address real cooking situations: quick breakfasts, family dinners, holiday meals, and treats that do not feel like compromises.

Karen now lives in Mechanic Falls, Maine, with her four Brittany dogs. She continues to live by her motto “You are what you eat,” believing that food should support health rather than undermine it. Her cookbook reflects both her personal journey back to health and her commitment to making gluten-free cooking accessible, practical, and genuinely delicious for anyone dealing with celiac disease, sensitivities, or simply wanting to feel better through dietary change.
